FOOTHILLS PAINTERS
PAT FLACHBART

PATHWAYS
Pathways always seem to emerge within my pieces. If I’m in the “groove” I’m enjoying the journey I travel during the creative process.
Exploration and experimentation are the guiding forces in my life and work. My journey through life has taken me from St. Louis, Missouri to Paris, France, then Monterey County and the Sierra Foothills of California, before coming to Hickory, NC. Moving to North Carolina has provided a backdrop of the Western Carolina Mountains and the country roads of the Piedmont, which lends itself to new attitudes and expressions in my work.
I explore and experiment with oil painting, watercolor, acrylic, exquisite handmade paper and most unique raku pottery pieces. A “hands-in and hands-on” artist, I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm with my painting and pottery students, and know that every artist’s work is influenced by those with whom they have contact.
Every “trigger” prompts an idea, and a concept is born. Every artist’s work is influenced by those with whom they have contact. Every “trigger” prompts an idea and a concept is born. Therefore my work reflects my travels, my home, my love of nature and my interests in expression and experimentation. I continuously attempt to step into the unknown and test new and innovative methods and materials – testing my patience and challenging what’s conventional.
"I’m proud to say “I paint outside the lines.”
